Manuel de Falla’s Ritual Fire Dance, a movement of the ballet El amor brujo (The Bewitched Love, 1915) in an arrangement by the composer for piano solo. In this opera, the ghost of Candela’s deceased husband haunts her, so the gypsies must make a circle around the midnight campfire, Candela must dance the Ritual Fire Dance until the ghost appears. She must dance faster and faster with the ghost until he vanishes into the fire. Rather than paint a fire, I have painted ‘fire’ in the sky and evoked the feverish energy in the piece with the vigorous brushwork and dramatic composition.

The work is beautifully framed and ready to hang.
